Scope Rings and Mounts for Encore
« on: January 04, 2011, 04:27:52 PM »
I am going to put a 2x7x32 Nikon Prostaff scope on my TC Encore Pro Hunter rifle. I like the open sights that are on it but am 60 years old and am not seeing small branches and such between me an the deer at times. I like the idea of being able to use the open sights for close shots but that would mean see through rings which most people seem to dislike. What would you all recommend? I have been told buy some that something like a Warne QD set up would be much better than the see through's. I am not even sure that once I got used to the scope I would use the open sights. What set up do you guys like and recommend?

I thought of using picatinny (weaver style) scope base and quick release high rings, but I didn’t like the look, and how high I needed the scope to clear the rear base. I also thought like you, I would never use the barrel with iron sights. I use Leupold dual dovetail base and medium rings on my rifle barrels for permanent scope mounting.

I have the Leupold QR rings and base on my Encore muzzleloader.  My thought at the time was that I could remove the scope for cleaning or remove it if I hunted somewhere that did not allow scopes during the inline season.  I do remove the scope when I clean the gun and it always returns close enough to zero that I haven't had to adjust it.  Mine is the 2-7x Leupold shotgun/muzzleloader scope.  Even with the low power scope I needed high rings to clear the rear sight.  After many seasons with this setup I wouldn't change a thing.......

I agree that the Leupold QR base, and rings is a great set up. I like to remove my scope when I clean.  I just put this set up on my T/C Triumph. But if you want a see thru set up, get a Weaver base, and a set of Weaver detatchable see thru rings. I have this set up on my T/C Firehawk, and it works well in this application. Also with the Weaver set up you can remove the scope for cleaning.
