I have an older (1951) model 94.  My eyes are not what they used to be and I'm considering putting a scope on it, probably a fixed 4 power.  The only mount I've seen is a side mount that won't interfere with shell ejection.  Do any of you people have scopes on your 94s?  Is the side mount problematic due to its alignment?  It looked a bit strange on the rifle I saw.  Thanks.

The off center scope which allows ejected shell casings to come up out of the top of the (original)  M-94  looks strange and feels weird, because the weight is not symetrically distributed as is the case with the scope mounted directly above the receiver.  But, if your eyes are failing you can either get used to an offset rig or maybe acquire another more modern M-94 AE that permits a top mounted scope.

Failing eyes can sometimes be helped with an aperture sight on the tang or receiver.  They are much easier to use than the buckhorns.  Another choice is to use a Long eye relief scout or pistol scope mounted forward of the action on the barrel.  You could also mount a red dot sight like that.

I tried the side mount rout and didn't care for it much.  Some time ago I was watching an Ebay sale for an old Leupold forward mount but it went for about $75 or $100 I think.  Plenty spendy for me.  

Are there any new sources for a mount that could be put on an M94 forward of the receiver?   Where can I get one and about how much?

Have a miniature red dot sight (like the Docter) mounted front. Will not interfere with the ejection and not damage the look of your gun.
You aim both eyes open and it is suitable for hunting to 200 paces.

I put a Burris LU-Scout base with Burris rings on a NEF Handi Rifle.  My local gunsmith charged me $30 to drill & tap the barrle, install the scope and sight it in.  

Weaver has a chart which gives the length, hole spacing, diameter, thickness and profile of their mounts,both one and two piece,  so you could measure the diameter of the barrel where you want the mount and determine which one will work.  Then the barrel will need to be drilled & tapped.

Koivu,
I have a  Williams side mount,with an offset scope on my top-eject '94. I like it,and had no problem adapting to it. I  also have offset scopes on my 30/40 Krag and my 30 cal GI Carbine. I never had a problem getting on target with any of them.
Williams still sells that mount.
