firing shotshells in slug barrels

can shotshells be fired in rifled shotgun barrels? I would like to use a shotgun with a rifled barrel such as the NEF Tracker II slug gun with slugs for deer and shotshells for grouse.

Yes you can, however, patterns will probably be less than desireable. The rifling will spin the shot column and the results are not pretty. The thompson contender (45/410) trys to mitigate the problem by using a straight rifled choke tube but I don't think that is an option for other rifled shotgun barrels. Try different loads to see how your gun patterns or if you load for shotgun you may want to try and make some specialty loads. for all practical purposes it will work for what you describe but will not be as effective as one would like for shooting grouse.
Just another worthless opinion!!

I was at a trap shoot once where the guy who won, had forgotten to take the slug barrel off his gun before shooting trap that day.  Couldn't of hurt his patterns to much.

Tested three different 12 guage barrels with no. 7.5 shot, if you want to give the grouse a 98% chance of not gettin hit go for it.  Just try it on the pattering board and see what happens.     As it is they have a good chance of escaping from me with IC choke.
