Early model 200 223 feed problem fix?
« on: January 08, 2011, 04:47:52 AM »
A few years ago I bought a 200 in 223 when they first came out.  It shot good but experienced problems loading the second cartridge from the magazine.  At that time I took it to my gunsmith and he said that a lot of these guns were having this problem and that evidently no one had a cure for it.  I bought a piece that turned the gun to a single shot and have had no problems with it but would like it to load the entire magazine.  Has anyone figured out a simple correction for this problem with these guns?

You likely have the staggared feed type of magazine, every other round feeds from opposite sides of the magazine.  If number two fails to feed but number one and number three feed then the feed lip on the side that fails needs to be bent some.  I have one in 17 Remington made up from a .223, because the sholder if further back on the case I had to make a little insert in the front of the magazine that raised the tip of the cartridge up so the bullet would enter the chamber.  Watching the round chamber while slowly working the action and watching both sides of the magazine feed will probably give you a clue.  Larry
