Cold weather Doe

   I built this Lyman GPR last winter.  This fat doe was taken at 75 yards with 90 grains FFF and a .495 roundball with a .015" cotton patch lubed with Mink oil.  For anyone that thinks roundball is not effective, she never took another step.  No exit wound as the ball stayed in her, clean humane kill as it should be.

Update:  After further review it seems the ball did in fact pass through.  Exit hole was clearly visible in the hide although not obvious in the field.  Just an FYI

Congratulations!  That round ball has killed plenty of deer over the last 300 years or so, glad to see it's still up to the task...

Congrats & very nice, I've yet to take anything except a gopher with my .54 GPR.

Very nice, hopefully i can get a chance next year.  Michigan deer season is done this year  :(.

Great pic, and nice job.  I didnt' get to fill a tag this year, my first year with a muzzle loader, but had a great time just the same.  I found it a joy to carry and hunt with a percussion gun, and have no doubt I'll have a pic like yours next year.   :)

the way i read the rule book we have a late doe till the end of december here in michigan you may want to cheek it out

Nice looking rifle, Groundhog....what did you use to finish the wood and how did you brown the barrel?

Very kind words on my rifle and I thank you for them.  I used Birchwood Casey TRU-oil on the stock about 8 coats hand rubbed.  On the metal, I used Laurel Moutain Forge Barrel brown, that stuff is great.  I use that stuff on everything from my Hawk to my patch knife, easy to use and produces good results.  I made a browning box from a styrofoam container from my local fishstore. ( they ship fish in them and they are free)  Took the fan and housing from an old PC, added a light bulb for heat and it works great.  It was supposed to be an incubator for chicken eggs, but I found a better use. ;D

here is a nice doe i shot on friday in the snow,useing a .50 tc flintlock,75grs fff with a 370gr maxiball,complete pass thru,ran about 30yds. eastbank.

Nice shooting guys. Any deer taken with a traditional muzzleloader is worth 5 taken with a 300yd. sissygun. Well done!
