Another WAG idea

The brain is in overdrive with all this cold weather , What do you all think about doing a re-chamber of a 44 Mag barrel to a 44 Auto Mag , from looking over the case drawings , it looks like the AM reamer would clean up the mag chamber nicely .

Also with the rim cut still there , you could in a pinch still shoot 44 Mag rounds if need be .

Looking for some input here at this point , Ideas & anything I missed .

I think the best thing to do is a chamber cast of the barrel in question, if it's like mine, you'll already be able to drop the 44AM into the existing chamber well beyond where the case should head space, the 44mag has the same chamber problem the 357mag has, doesn't take much to ream to 445Supermag.
 
Edit: I just dropped a couple 250gr 444 loads into my 44 mag chamber, 1.37" of the jacketed and 1.35" of the .432" cast round will chamber, far too deep for the 44AM, it's already too deep to headspace on the case mouth of the.

Yep , there is something I didn't think about , Handi's and their 5 mile long chambers ! 

Whats the chances of getting one that is on its last legs ( reamer ) and is very worn down , so its in the low end of spec .

My 22" 44mag barrel is a 2007 with a tight bore, a new one now might be tighter, I'll find out and let ya know if Bud's ever ships my Superlight 44mag!
