'Nuther Handi moved in with me.
« on: January 07, 2011, 05:45:01 PM »
I stopped by a pawn shop the other day, looked a '06 Handi over and decided against it.  Whattaya' know, when I got home it had followed me!  I can't help it if lonely single shots move in with me can I?  The wife asked, "is that a new gun?"  I told her no, its not nearly new, been shot a few times by somebody.  She has a hard time understanding why a red blooded southern male has to have more than one gun........but she's a city chick at heart. ???

Anywho I just happen to have an army footlocker about half full of my Dad's reloaded '06 ammo, (Thanks Pop).  He's been dead many years, but had the foresight to know one day I would have a Handi in his favorite caliber.

I now have a .223 that I'm working up loads for, along with a .280 that I must try lighter bullets in, a 45=70 that needs a new scope, a 357 Max. that needs attention, not to mention the other lonely girls in the safe.  The boss shoud give me a "gun day" off every week....

I am always doing something to one of my guns. Had a pump .223 whe was with me when I bought it. Got it out of the safe to sale(2 years after I bought it), she ask "when did you get that one?" :D
She is learning to not ask ;)

Now that's one of the best ideas I've heard in a long time....we need to push for a "National Gun Day Off". The hard part will be determining which day...maybe rotate it each month?? "NGDO".....wow, that's a concept!!! ;D

I vote for Monday so we got the weekend to load the ammo ;D

Mechanic, I know the situation you are in. AND NOW I went and started cleaning my cave, Took apart one of the built in bookshelfs that was full of stuff to make into a gun cabinet. Should hold another 10 guns. The two safes and 8 gun cabinet I built in H.S. shop class have overflowed :o I have to be careful on this site or I'll be converting the other bookshelf soon ;D Now I have to find room for all the books and magazines :-\

I think I'm gonna need two extra days a week ;D

I've always thought that as Americans we should only have to work 3 days a week, we keep voting in, people that just keep wasting/giving our hard earned money away. Plus keeping a lot for themselves >:(  Gotta get back to cleaning ;)

It seems that when you only have one Handi, it gets lonely. They need company.
There for, it is up to us to make them happy. And let them Multiply. ;)

My starter was a 44 mag. Handi. I sent the action in for additional barrels, the piece was still was unhappy. The barrels are a .308 & a 12 ga. 3 1/2" chamber Turkey barrel.

To maintain peace in the Safe, I added a Topper 158/22 hornet. Since the 22 hornet was lonely for an additional 22 caliber.
I could not pass up a good deal on a Handi in 223 with a 4X Nikon scope to keep the 22 hornet happy.

And then I bought a very nice Buffalo Classic in 45-70 with a Smith Ladder sight attached. The Handi's in the existing group thought the 45-70 was more recoil than I could handle. Sooooo------------

I removed the Smith Ladder sight, installed a Williams WGRS in it's place. Then---------

Found a Fellow shooter who wanted to trade a 38-55 BT for the 45-70. We traded straight across. I removed the 38-55 rear stock sight. Installed the $200.00 Smith Ladder sight on the 38-55. Now, all are happy, for the moment.

However, who knows when the Handi's will demand more company. :o

I'm starting to save my pennies for a 20g USH, then idk where from there.  I would like a 45-70, but other than plicking paper theres not much use for one around here,  wait  I bet there is a few coyotes out there I could try it on.

Stuff sittin' around waitin' on a gun...........
Yep, I had 45-70 brass and shell holder for years, never had one until last Sat.; knew it would happen someday.
24 min. after posting for a die set on the classifieds deal was done. ( ;), thanx, Dinny)
Another friend gave me bullets and she pops just fine.
BTW, I hear 45-70 level one loads are just fine for crows and 'chucks up 'close' and empty 'pane 20# jugs way on out there.

Yep....45-70 is good for about anything including hippapotamus' if you happen to have one.  I really had no intention of keeping this '06 barrel.....but it shoots mil surp mighty good.  And I happen to have a few hundred .308 bullets and a lot of brass....

The .45-70s a great little varmint rifle ::)  The first thing I killed with mine was a big fat 'chuck at about 80 yards.  It sorta beheaded her.  I'm not interested in hides....just getting rid of coyotes.  My Handi .45-70 can take them at 300 yards if I do my part.  My part just got improved today.  I had cataract surgery, and I can see better already.  I enjoy nothing more than slinging a .45-70, .38-55, .357 Max, or a .445 at a distant target and whacking it. When it gets down to it, it's the whole reason I own them.  I wish I had gotten into this younger.  I'd be shooting the .45-70 at 1000 yards.
