What size scope rings for a NEF in order to clear hammer?
« on: February 28, 2003, 02:39:46 AM »
I have a NEF sportster .17hmr with a factory scope base. What size weaver rings(low, medium,or high) should i get to mount a 3-9x40 scope? I want there to be good clearance between the hammer extension and scope. Thanks for your time.

With the Bushnell scopes I have on mY NEF rifles, I needed the high mounts for clearance.

I use Leupold High Rings on my Handi-Rifle.  Allows enough room to access hammer without an offset adapter.

I put Leopold medium high rings purchased from Wally World on my NEF Sportster 17. I mounted a Bushnell with a 50mm objective and have good clearance.

I have only two left now but have Bushnell variables on both and the rear optics measures 1.5" and from groove in mount to the inside of the ring is 1".  I don't know if those are low, medium or high but they clear with about 3/8" or so room.  No problems with them.

One scope, 3.5-10-Wide Angle is on my .243
The other scope is a 3-9x40 w/Parallex corrector Bushnell Sportview "something else" is on the .223  Never really paid much attention to either after I bought and put them on.
