Jacketed bullet making
« on: September 11, 2011, 08:13:42 PM »
Looks like I'm on the fast learning curve.  I bought some old supplies and B&A dies, An old RCBS A-2 press and  I'm ready to swage...as soon as I read up on this lost art.

I do have one issue.  The press ram adapter that holds the bullet punches is missing the capture nut.  THe adapter slides into the ram and is pinned ant the top of it is bored out to hold the punch.  The capture nut/cap slides over and screws onto the externally threaded adapter.  I may have to have a machinist make me one.

UNLESS!  someone out there has one laying around.  Let me know, I'd be grateful.  I'll measure the thread/pitch/dia and post later.

I've got @17k of 6mm jackets and 175#'s of lead wire to convert.  Should keep me busy for awhile.  Glad to see this forum, albeit it is a tad quiet.

#1).  Best of luck.
#2).  You may as well make the connections. Dave Corbin, corbins.com is the big source of talk, learning, books. He has several posted on his web site for review, download, sans pictures. If he does not have the item on the shelf he can make it... His brother Richard went off on his own some time back, rceco.com and has about the same goods, somewhat less literature, although an on line book,  and slightly lower prices. He too might make you a piece or have something on the shelf. Both answer email with reasonable response time.
#3). I mean no disrespect to Mr. Blackmon or the Nemi  brothers or Mr. Deustch, just they are a bit less talkative and available. Hit the benchrest boards and you can find them if you like.
This is not unusual machine shop work and any machine shop can do it. Cost varies widely as does quality if the newbie lacks experience. Luck. Happy trails.
