I just picked up a Rossi 92 in 454 Casull. Ideally, I would like to pair it with a Super Redhawk and be able to carry both at the same time. Looking at how Junior (
www.castbullet.com) wears his saddle ring sling, it would seem to interfere with a strong-side holstered handgun. On the other hand, I like the apparent convenience of that sling and the improved authenticity over regular sling studs.
Of course, carrying a handgun that weighs over 3.5 lbs loaded might require a crossdraw shoulder holster of some sort anyway, so a saddle ring sling would be awkward, but fine.
Any opinions on saddle rings vs. sling studs (and a regular shoulder sling) for hunting?
I know where to get a saddle ring. If I decide to go with sling studs, which one should I get? Checking out Uncle Mikes, it seems my best option would be the set with a standard wood screw type for the rear and a short machine screw type for the forearm barrel band. Has anyone used that set?
Edit: FWIW the carbine has a 20" barrel, so may be a bit long for side carry. The magazine tube is pretty fat and I could not find one of those "split circle" clamp-on sling studs like my '94 30-30 has that would be big enough. The split circle kind would fit on the barrel, but that might look a bit off.
