Accubonds and Ivories!!! 35 Whelen K1A
« on: December 12, 2010, 02:23:37 PM »
My first bull!  got him at 65 yards when he turned broadside on "Black Friday"!  225 grain accubonds at 2700 fps through the shoulders and he never took a step, literally, but not a spine shot.  Couple of pics, first is where he dropped, then it's off to the taxidermist and finally the recovered bullet (far side skin) and ivories.  He was an old bull, ivories were down to the gums, one was deformed.  He'll go 320 (not that I really care...).  On a side note, when I was standing next to him realizing what I had just done 6 more bulls walked by at 50 yards, one 7x7 was 375 easy.  Public land too!

Really nice elk! Pretty hard to top that one. What was your firearm of choice?

Does K1A mean it was a Ruger No.1A?

Outstanding  Matt !    Thats the kind of bull dreams are made of.  At 65 yards that must have been heart pounding plus.   Jedman

I didn't even know what he was until after I shot him.  I could only tell that he was "legal" through the trees, didn't know he was so nice
