In my post on thread about "favorite bobcat set" I showed a pic of one of my favorite cat sets when I use rimrock.  I guess you might say it paid off this morning.

For Sale: Old wore out trapper - rode hard, put up wet, high milage and earned every mile.

Thanks guys.  Actually this is the second cat I caught at this location this season.  The other was a small tom that was about 30 feet from this set.  Caught it Sat. morning with a post set.

Corey, They did move pretty good here last night.  2 greys, this cat and a coyote out of 14 traps working.  Was a little surprised since the wind was gusting to about 25mph.  But the light misty rain must have made them want to get out and about.  Congrats on your cat as well.

nice cat rascal,

is there a way you could dig up that post on the cat sets, i'd really like to read it.  i live up in northern mn, and supposedly we've got quite a few up here, but i've never seen them or their tracks.

i have to go out and redo my fox and coyote sets because we just got about 6-8 inches of snow.  so if there is cats around would i have a chance of catching them in my fox and coyote sets, or are they even smarter.

mntrapper the post is down about 25 topics, called favorite bobcat sets, in my opinion cats are easier to catch than k9's, they are just fewer are farther between.   Corey

Corey;
  Yes, cats are definitely addictive but so are coyotes. :-)  In all honesty, I would rather see coyotes bouncing around in my traps than cats hissing at me.  :-)   I have not really started my cat trapping yet since we are only allowed 20 and most of those I will take in Jan & Feb.  It won't be hard to fill my quota and I want to get the best quality possible.  As to cats being easy to catch-- yes, they are easier if all factors are considered. They let you get away with more mistakes than a coyote will.
  As far as the grey fox, my taxidermy quality greys have sold as cheaply as $25 this season and as high as $46.  However, one that is a "fur market" grey is running around $15 here.   If you just wanted one to hang on the wall (no feet, not preped for taxidermy), just PM me and we can work something out.

Mntrapper28:
  You may have already looked at the post but I played around with the picture that was posted and this one might give you a better idea of how I constructed the set.  If you don't have rimrock, you can still use the same principle by making a post set next to a pine or cedar with a flag about 8" to a foot behind your set.  The flag is strictly eye appeal but I do use another set that I like that has fur wired to a nice sapling about 16" off the ground with lure on it.  The cats just love to come up and try and rub that smell into their fur.  Snags lots of cats.  Just be sure to check your state regs to make sure it would be legal where you are.  Anyway, here is the updated picture.

Ace;
  I have been called graphic (my wife has said that a few times when someone ticked me off and I responded) but I have never been called an Ar-teest. :twisted:

  I thought that maybe by illustrating the pic as I did, it might give a better idea of just how I had made the set.  While I do not consider myself to be an "expert cat trapper", I have caught one or two and I thought perhaps this might help someone who has not had a chance to trap many cats.  My main objective here was to show how you can "force" a cat easier than a coyote.  For those who haven't tried cat trapping, they are missing a great bit of fun.  Notice there is actually a reserve "v" to the set.  For me this has cut down on some misses since I have funneled the cat to exactly where I want him to put his foot through the use of large guides.
