"Pallet" Wood on Handi vs Laminate Wood on Ultra Varmint?
« on: January 15, 2011, 07:12:19 AM »
There is about a $55 in cost.  Is there any performance/practical difference or is this a question of preference?  I assume the laminated wood is stiffer and heavier, but the Handi rifle is already heavy.  Basically bench shooting so weight isn't an issue.
BTW I did read the FAQ first and enjoyed the discussion on "pallet" wood stocks.

I would say that the Laminates are just a bit heavier, but doubt the average shooter would tell the difference. UV stocks are just checkered versions of the laminate stocks.

Most agree, the Lams are hands down better looking. Aside from looks, there is no practical differences between them.

You didn't ask this, but the BC stocks do handle a bit different being a straight grip and most lams and pallet woods on CF firearms are pistol grip.

Stock set weights are all listed in the FAQs for comparison.
