Excell Auto 5 shotgun: opinions
« on: December 19, 2005, 01:08:26 AM »
Hi:

Does anyone have any information on the H&R Excell Auto 5 shotgun?  Where is it made and what is the quality like of the shotgun? How is the Walnut stock and the overall fit and finish of the shotgun?

Thanks,

i was curious about these myself.  my brother is looking to jump to an auto loader, and the synthetic with both barrels looks like in might be a decent gun.   does anyone have one yet?

I do have a excell auto with a synthetic stock. It as a 28" barrel and shoots 2 3/4 to 3" shells. Manufacutered in turkey. The finish is a flat bluing but not a bad look if your a waterfowl hunter or upland game bird hunter. I have already put over 3000 rounds through two seasons and haven't had a problem. I do a quick clean every month and before every season do a full maintenance cleaning and check before headin out. A lot of people say on some other sites about jams in the action, but my experience with autos I have never had a jam once. I shot a lot of Pheasants and waterfowl with it. Recoil is not to bad, they say it does have a bad recoil shooting buck shot with the gun. But I shot almost 500 rounds of 3" buck shot through it and never felt a recoil and I am a small guy. The gun itself only weighs in at 7 pounds so pretty light weight compared to some name brand shotguns. I bought it because of the price. You can't beat this price for a auto around anywhere. My father shoots a browning gold and he has more problems with a expensive auto than I do with a cheap auto.
