Hello.  New to this forum.  I was reading through some of the posts and thought I should sign up since this is my first year trapping.

Not having much luck so I could use some help.  Mostly targeting mink and coon but would also like to start targeting fox and yotes.  Trapping public wildlife area so I think my poor results are because of someone graciously helping me check my sets when I am not around.  I am trying to stay positive but it is becoming frustrating.

Anyway, any help with good sets for fox and coon/mink would be appreciated.  Trapping in southwestern part of Ohio along good creek bottoms and lots of farm land.

Welcome Traditionalhunter;
  You will find that a lot of the members on here will be able to help you along.
  I know how you feel about "not having much luck", but don't give in to disappointment.  That old saying that sometimes the hardest lessons are the ones that teach us the most.  I am not a mink trapper but I bet RdFx, Ace, Boggy, Mallard and a few others will be able to help alot.  Also, you might ask Asa to send you those 6 pages of fox and canine tips.

Thanks.  All help would be appreciated!!

Started to trap this year to get out and enjoy the outdoors once bow season was over.  Just told myself "No big deal if I don't catch huge numbers.  I am just in it for the fun!"  Well, all that is still true.  I still love being outdoors, even in the pooring rain like this evening, and I still am doing it for the fun.  But.....funny thing happened.  It has become very, very addicting.  I am constantly thinking of ways to improve my sets, or places I should have set.  Constantly thinking of trapping.  I have had the good fortune of growing up in the outdoors.  My father had me in the woods since I was old enough to walk.  I have always thought of myself as a good outdoorsman.  Not the greatest, but above the average weekender.  Now that I have started trapping, I am starting to doubt that.  I read the sign, make my sets, and nothing.

Oh well.  It is still lots of fun.  One of the most rewarding parts is being outdoors.  I am just thankful I live in a country where I have the privledge to do so.
