If passed, 6 months after turning 21, they would be required to have a gun for self defense. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

And like the health care bill, it shows that politicians have too much time on their hands. It's hard to believe we pay them to use this type of thought to govern us. ::)

Too funny...

Rep. Hal Wick, R-Sioux Falls, is sponsoring the bill and knows it will be killed. But he said he is introducing it to prove a point that the federal health care reform mandate passed last year is unconstitutional.

“Do I or the other cosponsors believe that the State of South Dakota can require citizens to buy firearms? Of course not. But at the same time, we do not believe the federal government can order every citizen to buy health insurance,” he said.

I am with you Dee.  I wonder how much time he took to write a bill that he knew wouldn't pass.

Couldn't our governments time be better spent on solutions instead of dribble? Although in accordance with the "militia act of 1792" arms ownership is already a requirement.  ;)

If I remember years ago a small town passed an ordinance requiring all citizens to own a firearm. They felt it would reduce crime. I don't think it was enforced.

I believe this is the town you are referring to:   Kennesaw, Georgia.  The link below is to an article comparing the effects of having this law in place for 25 years (since '82)  to Morton Grove, Illinois, which was the first city to ban handgun ownership of private citizens.
