Who makes a GOOD scope for the 454 Raging Bull.?
« on: November 13, 2010, 03:13:23 AM »
I have the BSA on my 454 now and Im not happy with it because of the eye relief.
Ive been looking at the Nikon Monarch-UCC 2.5-8 x 28mm EER with the 30" eye relief.

Watcha think???

Freedom Arms recommends only Bushnell Elite 3200 pistol scopes for their hard kickers.  I don't know what the eye relief is on them though.  A co-worker bought a FA in 454Casull and disregarded their scope advise and put a Leupold on his because he didn't want a "cheap scope" and the Leupold will not hold zero on this hand cannon.

Hummm, I've had Leupold M8-2XEERs on a bunch of hand cannons and never had one fail.

I used both the Bushnell 2-6 (both Elite and Trophy) on my RBs in .454 and 480 Ruger. I also used Leupold 2X scopes on them. I even mounted a Bushnell Holosight on one of them for a review I did on the Holosight.

Those are the only optics I ever used on my two RBs and I've used the same scopes on several Freedom Arms FA83 and FA97 revolvers. Right now I think the only handgun scope I have left around here is a Bushnell 2x tho there might still be a Leupold 2X some where hidden in a drawer as well.

Since I gave up the TCs I've pretty much given up shooting handguns with scopes other than to do a review from time to time and if I shoot them I use them with factory irons and if I need to reach out further than I can shoot with irons I just use a rifle.

I've killed a lot of game with TCs and scoped revolvers but eventually got to the point where I didn't feel I was REALLY handgun hunting when using them so now stick to irons for hunting or just shooting for fun. All my TCs both Contender and Encore have been sold off and now I use only revolvers for handgun hunting and for most general plinking chores and both revolvers and semi autos for self defense work.

I had/have a buschnell trophy 2-6 on mine.  For the money I dont think you can beat it.  I have run a lot of hot stuff down the tube with that thing on and it still works flawlessly.  I say had, because I took it off, been doing a lot more plinking lately.  But I know when I put it back on it will be there for me no problems.

What did you think of the eye relief on the Bushnell 2-6 Elite GrayBeard?  It only has a 20" eye relief.

The distance from my eye to the back of my R/B is 29",,,Thats why I was looking at the Nikon with a 30" eye relief.

Eye relief was fine for me. I really don't measure it just shoot the guns and if it's a problem that becomes clear quickly. For me none of the many handgun scopes I've used have presented a problem due to eye relief.

I've used them on TC Contenders and Encores, S&W, Ruger, Taurus and Freedom Arms revolvers and never has it been a problem for me.

I had a 2-8 Burris in the gun cabinet when my 454 Ruger came home for the first time. So far I'm very happy with it. 4-5 inch groups at 100 yds w factory ammo.
