Curious about Single-Six
« on: March 22, 2011, 01:19:17 PM »
I recently acquired the Old Model Single-Six shown below. I am definitely not a Ruger guru, but I did notice that the sights were 'odd' for a Ruger. When I asked about them, I was told it was a 'target model' Single-Six. Again, not a Ruger guru, so I let it go at that and gave it a new home. That being said, I've had no luck finding info about any target model SS. I'm guessing somewhere in it's life somebody just added the sights it has now. I'm not complainin' about this, just curious and would appreciate any thoughts/information from y'all? Just FYI the serial no. is 159xxx - Ruger's site says is a 1960 manufacture.

I've now got a minimalist collection of single action OM Rugers: 1 Blackhawk 357mag.  1 Single Six .22 ca.l   1 Bearcat .22 cal. All shooters.

:D Very nice pistols...I am NOT a Ruger guru either...But it looks to me like someone dove tailed the action and fitted custom sights to the pistol..neat job, neat sights, enjoy...

The Micro Sight Company produced adjustable sights for quite a few of the handguns made back in the early/mid 1950's.

The above Ruger Single-Six sports a Micro Sight Kit, which consisted of a dovetailed, fully adjustable rear sight (that utilized the Factory drift rear sight's dovetail) and a "slip over" front sight assembly that was secured to the original Single-Six sight by a "cross drilled" retaining pin.  There were several different "slip over" front sight styles.

Thanks flatgate. The rear sight on mine is the same as in your picture and says "Micro" on it. In fact, I just looked at the front sight, and it too has "Micro" (in tiny script) stamped on the lower part. I think you have satisfied my curiosity.  ;D

Cheers

One more question for any Ruger guru, or semi-guru... Do the grips from a new model Bearcat fit the old model Bearcat? I'd like to get less beat up grips for my OM Bearcat.

Thanks in advance.

Do the grips from a new model Bearcat fit the old model Bearcat?

Thanks in advance.

Most likely not, however they may be close enough that some "fitting" will make them satisfactory.

The early Bearcat grips, the versions with the "plastic" grips, usually won't interchange with the wood grips.

Your best solution would be to purchase some "blanks" and fit 'em yourself.......or find a "similar vintage" pair in better shape.

JMHO,
