Hawkeye 300 WM weight

All,

Any Hawkeye 300 WM owners here?

If so, do you think your rifle is pretty dang heavy? Mine feels like a load of bricks to me. Right now I have factory rings and a Nikon Monarch 2.5-10X42 on it. That keeps the recoil down, but sure wears me down on all days hunts. I thought about buying a Tikka T3, but I really like the Hawkeye.

I'm thinking about going to Leupold rings and a VX II 3-9X40. What have you fellas done to yours?

Well the Ruger might weigh a bit .
The t3 would indeed be a nice gun , as we Have Both . But while you loose a few pounds you also gain recoil and the 06 in a t3 is just about All I want . You might notice a few 300 WM t3 turned in at the gun shop , well it is the recoil that is the problem , just as how many S&W model 29 revolvers were sold after the dirty Harry Series of Moves then turned back in ?
You can put a Limbsaver pad to the tikka which sure helps alot . That way you will save the weight and still have your teeth and hat when you touch one off.

I have handled a few Hawkeye's, I did not notice any of them being heavy, then again my 300WM is a Lam. stock Sendero, maybe that's why!!

Thanks for the feedback. My son has a T3 in 270 win and it doesn't kick me at all. I was surprised with the lack of recoil, because it is a really light rifle. I think the recoil would be manageable for me with a T3 in 300 WM.

My biggest concern is that I like the Ruger a lot, but the weight is getting to me. If I could just shave a pound or so off, I think it would work out for me. If that's not possible, then I'm thinking the T3 is my next best choice.

Just put a aftermarket pad on it !! Otherwise you will get my point .
But if you know your not going to benefit from the aftermarket pad , then so be it .
 Comparing the 270 to the 300 is apple and oranges . I have no problems with a '06 , but found the 338  with full house loads a bit much on the bench . The pad made it a pussy cat . LOL My wife calls the Limbsaver " a pussy pad "
I have a winchester 70 in 300 WM. It probably weighs about the same as your Ruger . Don't mind shooting this gun at all , but granted, it does get heavy towards the end of the day .

SOOOO !! Hense the t3 -3006!!

I own 4 rugers . an older m-77 7x57, 2 all weathers 270 and 338 win mag and a new hawkeye with the
laminated stock 7 mm rem mag  weights more than my 338 win mag all weather, But my mod 70 xtr 30-06
weights more. I would put a good synthetic stock on your rifle.  MIKE
