Yep, both cost and effort is why I tossed the 7X30 on the list.   In use a 309JDJ blows it out of the water (pun intended), especially with heavier bullets and bigger game, but it is a very good deer round that would be cheap to gear up to either as a pistol or cabine.   Bet you might even find somebody here who will trade a 7X30 barrel for your 375JDJ barrel, but they'd need to sweeten the pot to be a fair trade.   Ditto on the dies and supplies.   Whatever you finally do Scott, enjoy.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

Looking at my hornady book the 7x30 with a 165 gr bullet has a MV of an average of 2100 fps, at 300 yds its still 1671 with 1004 ft lbs energy, sighted with a 200 yd zero its 14 1/2 inches low at 300
The 309 with a 165 gr bullet averages about 2300 fps, at 300  yds its still 1709 fps with 1070 ft lbs energy, also sighted at 200 yds its 13 inches low at 300

Seeing as how the 309 would be easy double the money it just doesnt have that large of an advantage...well seems that way to me anyhow..granted the 309 can throw some bigger bullets and faster, but I'm not sure how much I would use them..

Never owned a SSK barrel before, only factory barrels.I bought my 375 JDJ carbine barrel when they came out.Mounted up Leupold VX1 3x9.The whole package only weighs 6 1/2lbs.Also put a Limbsaver slip on recoil pad.The extra length helped the fitment.Since I bough this close to season also bought 2 boxes of Hornady ammo.It does kick like a mule. One thing though it is very accurate.A problem with the first Hornady ammo was missfires.Guess there was a problem with primer depth.TC said it wasn't my action or barrel since I didn't have a problem with my other barrels.Hornady was nice enough to send me 6 more boxes.Haven't had a sine missfire.Still have three boxes left. That ammo is just as accurate.Only problem I don't shoot it only a few times a year.Like I stated before it kicks like a mule. That barrel is used only for black bear hunting here in Pa.It makes a very nice carry gun since we drive the woods all day.One of these days I will take it deer hunting.
