Very good observation! If you notice, the second fox is in a #2 DBL. That set was made for a cat. Now I use mostly CS but depending on circumstances, I may set a DBL. The first fox was in a set for coyote on an old road.
When I am setting "straight" for coyote out in the open pastures, I usually try and get a 2 1/2 to 3 lb. tension. Not that many greys will venture to far out in the open like a red will. But, when I am setting close to timber, or where greys are, I use "free fall" pan. I do make a few adjustments to the trap and make sure I get no creep. I hate to see a grey track right on my pan and the trap not fired. :x Sure, I get a few more "non-target" catches, but that is ok with me. And I am still getting good pad catches on the yotes.

SSSUURREE! I turn them little fellows loose. Like heck, I will! Roll over, go back to sleep, and just dream that you could catch them like this.
