PCP?
« on: January 09, 2011, 01:28:52 AM »
Got an old Crosman 160 & was thinks of hot rodding it, but kind of like the low power to plink int the garage or barn in bad weather. It looks like the PCP cold be as powerful as the hopped up Benji/Sheridan even for not a lot more $. I suffer from project overload so would have to pay some one to do up grades. Can PCP's  be filled from a small air compressor or the air tanks used to inflate tires? If I don't get it I'm going to buy a Sheridan and leave it stock. I can buy the Discovery locally, but not the Chinese 160 clones.

PCP airguns need a special pump, or a scuba tank to fill. It seems like a p.i.t.a. when you look at it, but once you have the set up it's not too bad.  You shoot  'till the accuracy gets a little off, not until the tank is empty.  That means you are only 'topping off' when you pump up.  There is no better power plant when it comes to power.

I have a few airguns I am planning on selling.  Other priorities are pushing me.  You know how it is.  I'll send you a PM.  If you want any of them I'll hold off and not put them on an auction.

No. The pressure required is far beyond anything that a small pump or compressor will put out - about 200BAR or 3000psi.
As noted by the previous poster....a special pump is needed. A very special three stage pump. The pumps run about $250+/-.
The Discovery  is a little easier and operates at a lower pressure, so does the pump.
I started with a pump and, when I could afford more, I bought an 80 cu.ft. 3000 psi scuba tank. PCPs are great fun and there is no comparison to their power, especially the big bores 9mm/.45/.50.

It is not a good idea to leave any of the high pressure guns fully charged and stored. I leave my gun with a half tank of air.

The marauder can be single fired without the magazine. It is easier with a Single shot tray that is available.
