chapped lips
« on: May 09, 2009, 10:25:34 AM »
In cold weather I get chapped lips. usually not a problem. Just carry lip balm. Couple years back my brother & I were out in the woods for 4 days. I lost my chap stick. Man my lips were chapped. Seems like a minor issue but man its annoying. Mentioned it to my brother in camp tht night, He told me about an article he read. Basicly get a spot on your arm moist, then kiss that spot, getting your lips wet. I told him hes an idiot. the next morning I tried it. It worked. It works good if you havent had a shower in a couple days. Your skin is nice & oily. The oil gets on your lips & helps with the chapped lips. Sounds kinda gross I know but it works. Jay
I dont care what gun Im using as long as Im hunting

There was a time when that was how I went about getting chapped lips. (not my skin)  I seem to remember rather enjoying the experience too.

I have used the thin film from inside freshly cracked egg shells . It's a bit fidly to get out of the shell but the strips of film forms a windproof layer over each lip and they stick pretty well but will need to be replaced every now and then  . You'll look a bit of a dill as well but when your out hunting it isn't a fashion show .

Careful with Preparation H. It shrinks things.
I brushed my teeth with it by mistake one morning and walked around puckered all day!
And for land's sake, don't use it for bullet lubricant! I lubed a .44 conical with Prep-H one day, for my cap and ball revolver, and before I could get it seated, the bullet shrunk to a .36!
Just went "plunk" into the chamber.
I heard tell that one guy ran a patch of it down his rifle bore. The next morning, his favorite .30-30 was a .22!
I swear on a stack of phone books!  ;D

45k-70, probably what I was talking about.  yep, Is the bullet in her yet?

Beaudreaux was reading the paper and ask Philippe, Phillippe, what is a woman's yet? Phillippe say "I don't know, why you ask? . Beaudreaux sa " well the paper sa here dat a woman was shot at the Ocean Wave Bar. She now is in de hospital and doing well. Den da sa the bullet is in her yet. What is a woman's yet?"

Phillippe: "got me Beaudreaux, I jes don know."

My mother told me about the egg membrane tip.  Seemed to work well.  Essentially oils from our body contain (ok here comes some organic chemistry) double bonded carbons which absorb UV (sun) light.  Same principle as suntan lotion.  The higher percentage of double bonds in the compound the better the protection.  Plus it helps keep the moisture in.

Enjoyed all the humor that went with this thread.  Now back to serious stuff; the most common cause of chapped lips is dehyration.  Proper hydration in the cold is harder to detect than when hot but is as crucial as when weather is hot and in extreme cold can lead to early cold weather injuries.  Remdedy, drink more water, stay properly hydrated.

This is something I learned early in life.
I was working construction on a big water plant.
When you start dehydrating you get cold fast.
