Early speedfeed wooden stock questions
« on: January 21, 2011, 04:08:19 PM »
I have acquired a 12 ga Tracker Pardner 12 gauge smooth bore slug gun w/rifled sights and a "speed-feed" wooden buttstock.  I think someone has assembled it wrong, because the "angled part" is in the hole facing backwards..the spring part is forward of this and it still springs like it should..my question is  " how can I remove the rearward part?"  I have tried trying to drive it out, but can't get a good angle on it and I don't want to booger it up...any ideas folks?  thanks   see pics to clarify my confusing description
12g shortie w/chokes,Tamer .410,12g "Buck" slug gun w/20g extra barrel, 12g smooth bore tracker I, 45/410 w/22vp matched set, 7mm-08, .308 20",

my avatar pic is my 1960 Rambler I bought in 1972 for $175..6 banger 3-on-the-tree...drove it for 5 yrs  22mpg.. was "hot-rodding" (LOL) one night...tore out 1st/reverse gear. Drove it that way for 2 yrs(with no reverse and only 2nd and high)  Had to really plan ahead when parking.
sold it for $125

Never seen one! Interesting; looks like it fits into the stock bolt hole? If you have a straight shot at the cavity from the rear as in that bottom pic maybe you can get some version of a mechanics internal bearing puller in there to help pull it back out. Some have 2 or 3 spring loaded jaws that are forced outward when you insert the tool. Another option might be some kind of an expanding mandrel; a round apparatus that expands when you tighten the bolt, which would grip the inside of the tube.
After that comes epoxying in something to act as a puller, then when its out you use heat to make the epoxy release, but this requires getting inside for cleanup with a scraper to get out the epoxy film.

Thanks for the reply...I sprayed WD-40 in the hole from both sides and let it soak awhile...the took a large allen wrench and put the small end in the hole in the side of the stock while suppressing the other part w/the spring and knocked it out with a hammer..It was very tight...
It is an interesting stock...don't know if it was factory or not , but seems to me that a person could make these, utilizing the factory bolt hole channel....someone just assembled this one backwards...the "angled" part was facing rearward and it should have been facing forward to create an opening where you can insert your thumb into and angle the shells out of the stock..works pretty slick...

I like it! Glad you found a suitable solution. It might be the same vintage as that recoil pad?

I'll have to take it apart , but should be easier this time(I hope)...I should have taken pictures of the parts and/or measured everything when I had them out but duh...all I could think of was to get it back together....I think about any 12 ga could be altered to one of these with the right whittlin' out the hole and manufacturing the parts...I'll get some pics up later

OK  finally got it apart...not going to assemble it again until I make some changes...prob going to enlarge the hole in the stock somewhat..will have to figure out how to keep the beveled part from rotating....anyway the angled part is 1-1/4" long and a little less than 7/8" diameter(couldn't locate my caliper) the flat part of the angled end is 3/8" at widest part...the spring part is 2-5/16" long and mostly hollow(about 1-1/2") of it..is 13/16" diameter.(slides freely in the hole in stock)...spring goes inside..spring length relaxed is 7-1/2" ..the hole in the stock measures 2-5/8" long (oval) and about 15/16 wide(has to be wide enough for shell to exit)...also both hole ends are cut in on an angle instead of just straight in..... any other questions give me a holler

My dealer just got a Tracker 12ga. with the Speedfeed stock. It's a nice gun and he's asking $119 for it. If it was a 20ga. I'd already own it. I might get it anyway just for the heck of it.
