The Handi Strikes - Finally
« on: January 27, 2011, 10:54:36 AM »
After a buzy autumn of, bring the boy to college, moving to a place on the water, fishing there, training for a triathlon, holidays, work and business travel, etc.; I finally made it out to "The Shack"  in January.  It is in southern Mississippi  surrounded by a national forest.
The 44 handi rifle, with peep and firesight, boomflopped an 8 point at 60 yards.  It wasn't the biggest buck in the woods, but it made some fine andouille sausage and may become a decent skull mount.

Quick, thanks for the info on installing the firesight.

Mike,
You're one county west of me.  My 40 acre loblolly patch is in south Perry County.  I'ts a few miles east of the Camp Shelby firing range.  There are some big deer in the area and I've seen them when I was 'unarmed',  we still have til mid February to get after them.

Man, I'm a damned Yankee from Michigan and I ENJOY andouille.  Ya just gotta put yer head up and look around.  It's there in the cookbooks.

Hey Zeak,

It is a Cajun smoked sausage that we eat a lot down here in Louisiana.  I live in New Orleans and use anduoille sausage in my gumbo and my red beans and eat it with breakfast too.  All these years I had no idea what was in it until we made some.  The recipie we used was in the sausage making book that came with the Villaware grinder I bought a few years ago.  I always knew it had cayanne pepper, but was surprized to see that it also had cumin and chili powder in the mix.  I'm sure you can find a recipe online, like petemi said.  If you cant, I'll send you a recipe next week.

I used factory ammo. Winchester white box 240 grain, soft point.  They seem great and shoot well out to about 70 yards.  I never shoot further because the woods where I hunt don't allow you to see any further anyway. They could be good to 125 yards for all I know.
I really like the handi rifle too and the 44 is a great short range round.

Yep, that's what shoots good in mine also... sounds like they are bad little bullets!
