I have a chance to pick up a jug of IMR 4064.  I haven't used this powder much.  I know it might not be ideal for the rounds I load but powder is hard to get where I live.  For those who know this powder well, do you think I can come up with decent practice loads, medium duty loads in some or most of these cartridges? I shoot the '06 and 300 the most.

8 pounds is a lot for me and not cheap but availability makes it very appealing.

appreciate any advice.

Dand,

The Lyman 47th edition has loads for all of your calibers with IMR 4064 in it.

Good luck,

+1, Bulletstuffer.  4064 has long been a favorite of mine, after I experimented with some published loads and found it to work best with 180 grain Winchester Powerpoints in my Model 70.  I no longer have the gun, but have over 1000 Powerpoints.  I gave that rifle to my nephew-in-law, to keep in the family.  Guess I'll have to kick his butt if he (a non handloader) buys factory ammo for it.  I like to stick with parameters for powders that are published in loading manuals, too.  Somewhere between high and low there's usually a safe, accurate, and effective load to be found.

IMR 4064 is my go to powder for 150 bullet @52 grains= 2900fps and
180 @50 grains= 2800fps bullets in the 30-06 in mine anyway.
this powder has been around for years and lots of data for it as said before.

Well cool.  I figured it would go bang  and I see loads listed for it, but I've always  used slower or faster stuff,   4350, 4381,Rx22  or  4895 and 3031.  Might be worth a try. I rarely mess with stuff under 165 gr  but for target practice it might be worth it.

Thanks for the replies.

Ditto what Kurt wrote.  Also 50 grains is a NRA load for 150s in an M1.

Blessings!
