I found this interesting link with close up pics.  This is a Barbette carriage, right?  Sits too high for a casemate.

     I'm afraid the Russian has it wrong, Dom.  This is one we have studied and photographed.  It's definitely a casemate carriage.

A lot of nice pictures there, but I think they messed up a little in their planning.  It appears to be set up to finr into the fort, rather than out of it! :o
