Crosman/Benjamin/Sheridan .22 or .20?
« on: November 22, 2010, 12:33:16 PM »
dealer has both same price is there any advantage to the .20? I know there are more pellets available for the .22. How hard is it to 'scope this pumper?

I had bought a used Benjamin in .20 and really don't find it to be advantageous over .22.  If I was looking for a new one, I would get it in .22 due to the greater availability and choice of pellets and their lower price.  The good thing is that even with the higher priced pellets, pumping the gun is such a P.I.T.A., that you don't shoot it as much as a break-open or CO2 gun.

I use a pistol scope scout mounted like alot of people recommend on the Crosman forum.  It works well, easier to pump and load then with the scope over the breech.

Otherwise, recommended using the Williams receiver sight if you can.  If not, there are several barrel mounts for scopes, two part and one part.  Mac1 Airguns sells the best one.  The two set mount is cheaper and can be had more commonly, try Pyramyd Air.

Still, the scout mount is preferred.
Think as if you LIFE depends on it... IT does..!  Be Well...

If you get a spring-air gun (break open or underlever), be sure to get a one-piece airgun mount that has a pin to engage the hole in the mounting rail and also a airgun specific scope.  The recoil of a spring-air gun will destroy a standard scope, and the mount will move without the pin to hold it in place.  Don't go cheap on these or you will be replacing them soon anyway with the right stuff.

I ended up with a Crosman 160 1st variant & a 1964 Sheridan Blue streak grooved flat top. Love them both! the vintage Blue Streak has the edge in power but that old Crosman is a lot of fun.
