Gun Show :(
« on: February 05, 2011, 11:12:05 AM »
Well I went to my first gun show today here locally.  Wasn't much there but I stumbled upon a beauty.  It was a H&R buffalo classic chambered in 45/70 with target peeps.  I soo wanted to take this gun home with me but the 475 dollar price was unfortunetly more than I can afford, even for this beautiful gun.  Hopefully next time I come acrossed one I will have the cash:(

Our local shows are pretty much the same. If you want to buy, expect to pay close to new prices most of the time.

Same here.  Wasted 3 hours of driving yesterday for nothing.  Not even brass, bullets or powder.

I've pretty much given up on gunshows!

Not that you can't find some good deals but they are getting hard to find, and it seems a lot of the guns are over priced just because they are on display for the masses.

YMMV!....You can walk into a shop and find guns a lot cheaper, and that's just what has been my experience in my neck of the woods!
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

I try to avoid gun stores when I'm too broke to buy! :'(  I hate to find something I like and not be able to buy it and right now the war chest is pretty empty!

It was a local show at Robinson here in IL.  on a side now that i forgot to mention they had a couple shotguns for not to bad,  had a 12ga with a pallet stock for 125 and a 20g for 95.  Also had a .22mag wih a synthetic stock for 150.  Almost bought a box or 2 of PMC bronze box for 8 bucks, but decided to pass on that.

Bigbird,

A couple of days ago, Budsgunshop.com still had NIB 45/70 BCs listed @ $376 including shipping to your FFL.  New gun and save enough to buy a set of dies and some reloading supplies.

if yu want a good deal at a gun show, just stop whoever is carrying something around yu mite be interested in and converse with them.even if its not sumpin yu want ask them anyway. yu mite get a bargain and resell later for a profit.the prices a dealer will shoot them are so rediculous that any decent offer will take them by surprise.dont buy nuttin yu are ignorant about and dont buy nuttin that yu dont feel yu can make 20 buks on.its kind of fun actually.whatever yu make roll it over into sumpin yu want.3 or 4 rolls and yu can be into something yu want pretty cheap.

I haven't been to a gun show in years.  There is always a big one in Louisville, but by time I payed to park and the entrance fee I was out 20 bucks before I saw my first gun.  Prices there were high too.  So, if you are looking for a deal, typically you have to look elsewhere.

What I do like about gun shows is the variety, meaning lots of stuff that you aren't likely to see anywhere else.  So browsing can be quite enjoyable.

You can find what you like --- and then buy it new cheeper   ......

At least that is how it is here,,,,,,,,,,, you can stumble on deals, but not often....
 I go to see --- and once in a while            --       I get a deal  ..
A few years  back I Got about 300 cast 243 with  gascheck for $7  - most of the time I get  amo boxes or brass ---- spend $30  and have fun seeing a lot of guns...The wife likes the purses that hold a handgun.........

Mostly still about $5 door fee here in S-WI and why go if you dont buy something?!
I got 26 once fired 45-70s yesterday for $3, and some other stuff, saw friends, had a day out, etc.; all in all, worth the trip (45min. @ way). But if I had to pay $20ish for parking and door (plus the gas & food, etc) I wouldnt be going, Id be shopping here  ;).

FWIW, most of us come home and do the 'shouldve thing' too, even after all this practice.

bigbird,

I've never been to the Robinson show.  I've seen it advertised several times but never went.  I am from Newton.  One to check out is the one in Effingham.  I've been once and it was alright.  Nothing special but it was still good.

Feb. 19-20, IL, 2011, Effingham. Gun, Knife, Hunting & Trade Show. Knights of Columbus, I-57 & 70 at Fayette St. SH: Sat. 9am-5pm, Sun. 9am-4pm. ECA Inc., PO Box 138, Centralia, IL, 62801. PH: 618-495-2572.

It is a pretty good show, not huge, but lots of stuff to look at.  Prices might be better, not sure.

That(Louisville) is the only big gun show I have ever went to. It was cool to see all the displays. I did buy some brass when I went. But I am in no big hurry to go back. There is a small one that comes to Salem once in a while. Their problem is they do not advertise, unless you happen to drive thru town and see their little sign on the road(day of show) They are like most others though, prices to high or really pushing the limit for used guns.

I go to the one in Belleville, IL they have every 2 months.  I get a lot of my reloading supplies there and every once in a while a good deal presents it self.  Most of the time I think the sellers are in the mind set that they are only there to show off their guns.  My favorite place to buy guns is at Flea Markets, but even then those guys over value their guns.

Money talks, they have expenses but sometimes have to face reality........Im not embarrassed to make an offer that I think is fair, all they can say is no.
You might even run into Dinny at the Belleville show.

i've had pretty good luck at the gun shows in southern michigan, been getting some pretty good deals since michigan was one of the hardest hit states in the economic downturn people are willing to deal on some stuff, picked up a 1895 chilean mauser in 7.62 nato in 93% condition for $120
