AFAIK, The Model 70 was chambered for 6.5x55 in three models, all FW's:
The Standard Featherweight (6.5 intro'd 1991)
The XTR European Featherweight (6.5 intro'd 1986)
The Classic Featherweight (6.5 intro'd 1997) - the one I have, btw
FWIW, It's fairly easy/common, to alter the config of a M70, to what an owner wants.
For instance - I've always wanted a .338 Win Mag, and also really preferred the featherweight stock design - but the FW wasn't offered in .338 Win Mag at the time/yet ( 1978 or so) .....................
Soooooo I bought a .338 M70 Sporter inexpensively, then scrounged funshops until I found a long-action FW takeoff stock.
$75 later (for the FW stock), and a little rasp/inletting work in the stock's barrel channel area of the chamber/barrel re-inforce - and (presto ! ) I had a .338 Featherweight !
I later sold the Sporter stock to a gunshow parts dealer for $50, so the conversion cost me a grand total of $25 (lunch for two) - cheap at twice the price, to get what I wanted.
