Howa lightweight 223 ????
« on: February 26, 2011, 02:34:58 PM »
Have been looking for a .223 bolt and all I found at the last gun show was the Howa light weight 20 inch barrel.
Does anyone have any experience with this rifle...Howa and Weatherby actions I know...the light weight 20 inch barrel is what worries me...accuracy....stringing when it heats up.

Hey Oki,
I have a 20 inch lightweight, and I love it as do my children.  I put a timney trigger on it and free floated the barrel.  Shoots as good as I can hold it, just wait a minute between shots and it will do fine.  Barrel heats up slowly and cools off quickly.  Easily shoots 3/4" 3 shot groups at 100 yards with many types of ammo.  Currently shooting 55 grn. soft point monarch brass ammo bought at academy here in San Antonio, hunt coyotes and occasionally deer on my farms here.  Hope this helps, Jeff
