Yugo SKS Assembly Problem.
« on: December 18, 2003, 04:15:45 PM »
Just cleaned cosmo from my new Yugo 59/66 SKS in reassembling I got  to the trigger assembly and cant get it to snap back in. It does not press down far enough for the latch to engage. I never had a problem with my Norinco models. What could be wrong?........Horsefeathers.

Horesfeathers, make sure your saftey is in the "on" position, as the trigger group will not snap back in (no matter how hard you try!!!) unless the saftey is on.  You probably already know about this though.  If the saftey is on, my favorite method is to lay the rifle upsidedown across my thighs, and smack the bottom of the trigger gaurd with a soft rubber mallet.  I've been foolin with SKS's for over ten years now, and that's about the best way I've found to reassemble.  Hope it helps!  Revolverman

Like revolverman said make sure the safety is on he's right the gun won't come apart or go back together with the safety in the off position.  Make sure that little coil spring is in the stock too it pushes the gun apart for future disassembly.                                                       BigBill

Thanks for the suggestions. The safety was on.The gun is so new and tight fitting that I had to compress the trigger guard with a rubber padded clamp. After a few attempts it snapped in.     Horsefeathers.
