New 1981 Dan Wesson .44VH 6”
« on: May 30, 2012, 05:12:57 PM »
I made the mistake of dropping in my favorite candy store  this afternoon, only to find a beautiful deep blue .44 Mag 6” Dan Wesson looking at me in the gun case. I asked if I could see it (fondle it) the counter man handed it to me and said it is a ported barrel model (Power Control) and it comes with an un-ported barrel also, oh, it also has the box, paperwork and tools!
I have three other Dan Wesson’s that I bought new in 1987 to 1990 when I shot Silhouette and this one as far as I can tell has never been shot! It is spotless. It’s a Monson, Mass. gun and the letter that came with it is dated April 1 1981 (April Fools day) the serial # 010777, I think I may go gambling tonight, it’s my lucky day!
The out the door price, after a little haggling and cash payment was almost exactly what I paid for my 7445 VH8 that I bought in 1990!
I have been looking for a nice .44 Mag for a very long time, this one made the wait worth it.
On with the pictures, they just don’t do it justice!

looks like a nice one.  I'm sure you have a plan to correct that unfired condition soon!  My local dealer had a 6 inch blue 44 that we could never get together on...  Ended up with an eight inch stainless 44.

Thanks Axehandle, I hope to correct the problem this weekend!
I discovered the extra barrel is the ported one, I was going to install the non ported barrel so I did not need to mess with all the cleaning required with the ported barrel, now I dont have too! ;D

Nice collection. I have a 744VH8 that has had thousands of rounds thru it. Just yesterday I found a 715 2 1/2" snubby. I shot it today and the little round butt grip has to go. It's pretty snappy with full power 357 158gr loads. Loud as all get out. I love the DWs.

My DW744 started as an 8” VH. I used it successfully for handgun silhouette in the ‘80s. It sat around in my safe for a few years until I finally decided to rebarrel it to 6” V. It wouldn’t shoot very well with the 6” barrel using the loads that worked well in the 8”. I then found the chamber throats were pretty tight. I reamed the chambers and now it is the most accurate .44 I have, and at 56 oz. it is light enough to use and heavy enough to not recoil too badly. So I got a “new” gun for the price of a 6” barrel and .431” reamer.
