MY NEW CAMO HUNTSMAN
« on: February 07, 2011, 04:51:09 PM »
Thanks to Mike (member 378) for the barrel and receiver and Joe (member JAM66) for the stock, two great guys to deal with, I put together my own Camo Huntsman.  ;D

I drilled out the fore-arm and used the spring from the wooden fore-arm.

Now my questions..... I am a flintlock shooter and I have plenty of fff goex.  I will start with 75 gr, what gr of bullet would you use?  Also, I have been doing some reading of old posts and have read about breech plugs. The one I have uses the orange primer holders.  Is this the latest or best one to use?  I also see there is a better ram rod made by Mr. Hubbards, but could not find a web site or number to get more info. Thanks for the help.

Jeff

Welcome Jeff. Very nice job on the build. You can find Hubbard's info in the FAQ's. Kurt

After fitting my barrel, the first thing I did was replace the breech plug .  Then put on the same Williams peep and front sight arrangement that I have on my 45-70.  Pet load is 96 gr of Pyrodex P, with a wool wad under a 460 No Excuses.  I just prefer a full-bore cast bullet, but am going to experiment with crush-ribs and .45 No Excuses when we get out of below zero temps next month in NW MN.

:o  Evidently can't mention the name of the manufacturer.
