Guns you carryed for the job
« on: June 18, 2010, 07:27:47 AM »
If you were in the  military or a cop what were some of the guns and cal.s of guns did you carry/use ?

My dad told me he carryed a 45acp revolver in the 1st gulf war and so it got me thinking. What kind of guns were used by the military and  cops.

45 acp revolver!   I was over there the first time too and have never seen or heard of anyone carrying a 45 acp revolver.  I don't believe they are in the militarys inventory.  I've carried m-16 a-1s, a-2's, a-3's, & M-203's , M-60's, M-249's, at-4's, Stinger missles and fired lots of other stuff you can't carry like 50 bmg's, and the belt-fed fully auto grenade launcher(can't remember the nomenclature).  The coolest weapon I ever fired besides the stinger missle was a Vietnam era rocket launcher.  It had four barrels and fired white phosporous HE rounds that really would catch anything and everything on fire.  Don't get me started on anything explosives, what fun I had with c-4 and det-cord !! ;D   Dave

my dad was in the navy and he carryed that gun for shore duty. Maybe it was a Colt Model 1917 Army New Service Model 45 ACP Double Action Revolver?

In the Navy I carried a m1911a1, M9, M14, M16a1 and a2, Rem870 and Moss500 depending upon time and place. My favourites where the M9 and M16a1. As a cop I carried a Gl19, loved it. In contract security I carried a S&W 990L, ok, could take it or leave it. Now in corperate security I carry a M4 carbine and a Sig226. Love the carbine but hate the Sig. The Sig is the least liked weapon of any I've ever carried. Basically I don't like its ergonomics but it is accurate and reliable. The least reliable weapon was the M1911a1, I believe that is because they were all worn out by the time I got to them.  The most sailor proof was the Moss500.

The reason there are so many is that I was an Instructor for about 16 years, and they were many times furnished for use, and or testing, and training. The 3030 I carried in the river bottoms when tracking someone. Have had it most of my life, and when I was a youngster, the entire Texas Highway Patrol was issued 3030s for their cars, and a lot of Sheriff's Depts. They have the power, enough range, and have been used in L.E. in Texas since their invention. Model 94 Winchesters, and Marlin 336s make good car guns.

I always liked lever guns.  If had had to pick a 30/30 or m16 for cop work i would get the 30/30. I have hear way to many story of people not going down with M4/ non 20'' barrel m16's.

As a civilian...Glock 22/23, Sig 220, Kimber Eclipse ProII, Rem 870, RRA and Colt 16" carbines all 5.56.  Backup/Off Duty have been S&W 38+p, Taurus 357, Walther PPKS, Glock 19/23

Military...Colt M16A2, M4, Berretta M92FS

Knew a few that had 357 levers as their patrol rifles.  The reason was "less military looking, fast follow up shots, and effective out to 150 yds if needed which is much better than my pistol or shotgun."  One of those with a 16.5" bbl makes a handy urban carbine too.

In the Military M16A2,M203 1911A1, M9, SAW, M60, 50 cal, the belt fed Mark 19 and MP5. While working as the Marine Cadre at a Navy Support activity used M14, S&W 38 don't rember the model and Ruger double action 38's.  They were all worn out but easy to train with and yes we did use a S&W .45ACP revolver with moon clips.  Also Mossberg 500's and Rem 870's.  I was a marksman ship instructor at Camp Lejune and spent a great deal of time on the range in my job on the Navy base.  Basically ran the range for Navy and Coast Guard training and qualifying.  We had a pretty good ammo budget but were limited on what was avaliable.  We had no M16's on the Navy base.  The civilian security carried Glock 17's.
