One of the DC commissioners is pushing against Walmart to open a store in Wash.,DC. Seems she's afraid that there will be a high amount of shoplifting crime. Tell me it isn't so!! The good people of DC, shoplifting. NOO!! My bubble has been burst. What's this world coming too!!  :o gypsyman

Walmarts draw criminals like moths to a flame. Losses went sky high after WM announced they would not prosecute theft under I believe $50. The dopers love the place. Easy to steal and trade or sell for more dope. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

It surprises me Wal-Mart would even want to build in DC.  They have stores in Prince Georges county, College Park, and Tyson's Corner, in Maryland.  They have stores down in Alexandria, Virginia.  In other words there are Wal-Marts all around the beltway around the District, that is where the bulk of the people lives and shops.  There is a few houses for rich folks inside the beltway, the rest is Ghetto.

SOURDOUGH. They want a monopoly, there are 4 wm stores within 30 miles of me and I'm pretty rural. There have been 11 gunshops plus many other stores close since wm became part of the community. True, they bring in fast food joints for more min wage jobs. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

In some established areas maybe they are a blight.  But here they were a boom to the area.  Eight major retailers, two hotels, two large home improvement centers, two banks, three credit union branches, Offices for our major phone provider,  three large nice restaurants, plus the fast food establishments.  Yes Wal-Mart gets a lot of business, but there is a lot of overflow as well.

None of these new businesses showed any intrest in the Fairbanks area at all till Wal-Mart built here.

when I visit my family in east Texas we go to their SuperCenter.. I think they serve a purpose in rural areas.
I thought I read somewhere Home Depot at one time was going to expand by creating a superstore kind of place
for rural areas  - more AG , Farm,  Etc.. Don't know if they ever did.
