Excessive Bowback?
« on: February 10, 2011, 05:43:43 AM »
A friend has a ROA. I have seen the revolver after he has fired even one cylinder and the hammer - face, end, sides and throat is basically coated with residue from the firing.
The question being is this the norm/normal or should he address this by maybe replacing the nipples? And/or is this a sign of excessive blow back?
Let me add that the revolver functions or seems to function fine.

I'm just wondering how many cap&ball revolvers you have fired or seen fired, they all do get pretty messy.
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.

my ROA does get pretty dirty, a lot depends on what lube your useing over the balls. ive went to just a greased, tight fitting felt wad over the powder under the ball. no over ball lube. that helps a lot with the filth factor.ive had good luck with it.its actually about the most accurate big bore pistol i own.all cap and ball revolvers are a dirty mess to shoot like any bp firearm.but they are easy to clean if you know what yur doin.
