Redhawk re-barrel?

Last summer I bought a used stainless Redhawk from my neighbors yard sale. I paid 300$ and got the gun, a box of ammo, a leather holster and a belt with ammo loops. The gun had a spec of corrosion under the Pachmayr grip he put on it. Up till now I have hunted and taken deer with my GP100 with and without a scope. I want to scope my Redhawk but it has the 5.5" barrel on it. I want a barrel that can be scoped. I see Ruger sells a hunter model with 7.5" with built in scope bases. I am sure they can swap that for me but is there a better barrel out there for this purpose. The gun functions perfectly and I don't want a problem to crop up from any work I have done on it. Are there any options for scoping my gun the way it is now?

Ruger won't install any replacement barrel but the same type that the gun left the factory with; in other words, they will ONLY install a 5.5" barrel on that gun.

There is/was a 7.5" stainless barrel on Gun Broker earlier today; that might be an option - although it will be an expensive option by the time you have it installed on your gun!

I would personally use this as an excuse, er reason, to buy another gun...  8)

I have a old  security six 357 mag i sent in for a new barrel,ruger chged $92 with shipping.

you can buy no drill scope mounts that work great. i used them on my redhawk 41 mag w/ 5 1/2 inch barrel. midway or any other such suppliers should have them.

The no-drill scope mount sounds like a good idea, and will be the least expensive option.  Weigand Combat Handguns makes some excellent no-drill scope mounts.  Shipping the gun back to Ruger and back, assuming that they will install a barrel with scope ring cutouts, will probably cost you $100 - just for shipping.

Thanks for all the info and links. Probably going to go with the no drill mount. I can use a red dot sight I already have. Buying the Ruger barrel with scope mount bases would have limited me to scopes only. I found similar mounts for my other rugers too. Thanks, Geo.
