Your opinions on how long the .308MX cartridge will stay around for?

Don't know about where everyone else lives, but around here the 308 LE ammo is about the same price as most 308 Win. ammo, and cheaper than more than half of what I looked at today in my favorite candy store.  Unless you are lucky enough to get a rifle that shoots the the cheapest 308 ammo WalMart carries, it's gonna take one hell of a lot of hunting seasons to make up the difference in price.  I have 2 BLR's and like em, but I like my Marlin levers too and have 14 of them.  They have a totally different "feel" from the BLR's as well as the Savage 99's, also found in the 308.  Before anyone goes knockin a rifle/cartridge combination, they really should try one out.  I did and found something very worth while.  I like and have owned several 308 Winchester's, bolt and lever, and the difference in recoil is very real.  Cabin4 ya otta try one, ya might not be quite so vocal as to how redundant they are.  DP

Cabelas: 308MX: $27    standard 308: starts at $15

Not sure what places you buy ammo from. But I can get 20 rounds of 308 mil spec for about $7 if you do some on line looking and it won;t be hard at that.

As far as Marlin, I love thier guns. I own 3. I don't own a BLR. I'm not knocking the rifle cartridge combo of the 308mx in the Marlin. The thread discussion is about the longevity of the 308mx as an offered round. On this subject, the 308mx is likly a loosing proposistion for Marlin. How long has it been out now?? And Hornady still only loads 1 cartridge option for it. WHo else is loading rounds for it, NO ONE. WHo else is chambering a gun in 308MX, NO ONE.

The 308mx although an interesting cartridge, is very likely to cease production due to a simple lack of sales. You simply cannot avoid the facts when it comes to the 308mx. Its suffering from low sales. That is the point of this thread. I never said people are stupid for buying it nor did I say they are wasting thier time. But if you are not a hand loader and you owna 308mx, I think your in for yet more challenging times ahead when it comes to ammo supply & costs.

Lets quit putting words in my mouth. My posts don't support the follow ups. This thread is about more than what you personally like, its about the overall market/sales of the 308MX. Expand your thoughts a bit. Its not just about you.

A little research shows:

Here is a look at the Remington loading.  Its been out for a while.  The 140gr. is on its way from Hornady as well.  Its higher velocity with a lead free bullet.  I bought ammo before I could buy the FTX bullets.  I can now buy the bullets and the specific powder that gives the high velocity with tremendous accuracy.  I know that the local hardware store carries it and sells it for 20.57.  Cabelas is high.  That is higher than nearly all the 30-06 ammo I saw.
