Remotely Competive?

Curious if this setup could be even remotely competitive in RF Silhouette?  Remington 581 and a 3-9 Scope, trigger is very good, I have a couple of 5 round mags and two 10 round ones.  Anything I would need or want to change?  Larry

Larry, I have one my dad bought new in 1966.I think for the hunter class,with some small work like bedding,etc you would be ok. Don't think you would need a 40x or anything like it.Mine has survived my youth and all the stupid things I have done to it. It is still really accurate. Treat the magazines like gold. I don't beleive they are availible at reasonable prices anymore. This rifle was the cheap companion to the 788.  Mike

As long as the scope tracks properly, there's nothing wrong with that setup!

If you are just starting, what you have is plenty good to try out the sport.  You can always invest in upgrades after you decide how dedicated you will be to shooting smallbore rifle silhouette.  The only thing I would suggest is that you have 3-5 round magazines.  If it is a 60 shot match, you can have the magazines pre-loaded before you get to the firing line.  Also, the 10-round magazines might cause a problem being in the way for holding the rifle and you cannot use the magazine for support.
