reciver threads on a Weatherby
« on: February 15, 2011, 12:31:22 PM »
Are the barrel - reciver threads the same as a Mauser 98 ?   I have a Weatherby Vangaurd  that has a shot out ( badly cleaned) barrel, that I wish to have a new barrel put on.  I was hoping that those threads and the Mauser's threads are the same?

I doubt they are the same but really don't know..  Perhaps a call to weatherby customer service? You realize the Vanguard is a Howa made (1500 SERIES) rifle.  If someone has the info that'll be great but I've got to go just now nd don't have the time to look it up. If no answer this evening I'll be back...

They are not the same.Mausers are 12TPI and Howa are a metric pitch.

Ray O is correct. Vanguards are M26X1.5 and Mausers are USUALLY slightly over 1 inch and 12 TPI, and have 55deg. threads.  (Except for all the ones that aren't.) You can make a Vanguard barrel from a Remington take off, but it's best to start with a blank and make it right.
