It has been rather cold the last few weeks here also. I think next week I will start looking just to get out, and try and find a few new spots to look.

My  enlarged heart won't let me go like I want to but I tried this morning. I took the lawnmower through the woods, yep tricky, and parked at the top of the hill. Where I have to go through, below the hill,  was logged several years ago and theres now briars 10 ft tall where there never was any before. Hill is very steep but I went down in 2 places and could not get through the briars and saplings. I finally just gave up and came home. Wore me out. That woods is completely ruined. POWDERMAN.  :( :( :( :( :( :(

I usually get my mushrooms in the fall. When I was a kid back in the 50's, I used to hang around with an indian friend. He would pick tree mushrooms from hardwood trees like the maple tree. They were a fan shaped mushroom with a serated bottom looking like pages in a book. Took them before they turned brown. Mighty fine eating. He was always pointing out edible things to eat.

I've been out three times and found zip.  I'll go out today but with cold weather don't expect much but at least I'll get exercise and any day in woods is a god day.  We sure could use about four warm days and nights.  We are still enjoying the black trumpets we dried last fall.  If you don't know about these you are sure missing a lot.  Still I have a hankering for fresh morels.

I found four today.  They were nice but I don't think I averaged one per mile.  At least I broke the ice.

Morels are finally popping up in so central WA. Found an even dozen near the end of the house. Already got them dried. Hoping to go out and find some more this weekend.
