45/410 Survivor question

Just bought one today. Like the looks, liked the idea, thats why I bought it. In unpacking it , reading a paper that was in the box, it says" not for use with 410 slugs"!
What the heck? That is one of the reasons I bought it. No where in any of the ad description did it say that you couldn't use slugs. "Go anywhere, do anything". That is what the catalog ad says!
Can I use slugs in it or not?

I had a .45/.410 contender a while back and shot slugs out of it. The accuracy was horrible which I'm sure was due to the rifling being made for a .452 diameter bullet instead of the smaller .410 slug. I shot the slugs without the choke installed. The choke is only designed to be used with birdshot. If I were you I'd forget the slugs and try to find a .45 Colt load that is accurate. My contender would group 2.5" at 25 yards, not great but certainly minute of deer.

I used to have a 45/410 but it shot like crap so I got rid of it. A smoothbore Pardner 410 will shoot slugs way better than a 45/410 barrel will. A few guys have gotten those barrels to shoot but it takes alot of work to do it.

Thanks, guys. I read all I could find on here, and never noticed anyone mention not being able to shoot slugs. It's new and unfired so I guess I'll put it in classifieds.

I bought one @ a LGSmith's shop a few yrs back, I remember asking him what he thought about running 410 slugs through it, he told me....the 45 Long Colt is your slug..., probably as honest an answer as there is.  Other than short range I never had much luck with the 45's (would be nice if it came tapped like the other survivors), and the rifled barrel choke leaves it fairly opened up for shot.  For myself, I found that choked it makes a great yard / garden gun...#12 shot 410 Rio's for close stuff, and CCI 45 L Colt #9 shot shells for even closer shots...

Way 'overbore' for the 410 slug, but more than one here has messed about with .444Malin brass and full dia. balls. Like any other gun barrel, you gotta keep the projectile from bouncing back & forth down the bore if you want any kind of accuracy.

Try it with the 45 colts.  Makes for one hell of a .410 slug in those.

Well, I'm learning more about the little 45/410. I opened up a 410 slug round to find the "slug" was just a hollow thimble looking shell of lead. Not impressive at all. So I guess I was misleading my self to begin with, so I will try this thing out. See how the 45colt rounds pattern.

The factory .410 slug is anemic at 87 grains and moving at 1800 fps it puts out light weight .357 handgun power levels (626ft/lbs).  So doesn't a 32-20 or a 32 mag or a 30 carbine out of a rifle/shotgun length barrel.  The 45 colt will launch a 250 grain bullet (over 1/2 an ounce) out of the barrel in the 1200 fps (800 ft/lbs) range and faster if you use +P ammo.
