I'm thinking about getting a gun to replace my r9 in .177.It is accurate at 50 yards with premier lites. I liked the .177 because it was flat shooting and the pellets were less expensive.
I am looking at the rx-1 because Beeman has a used special on one. I wanted more power and I liked the features of the gas spring. I can get a Rx-1 in either .177 or .20. Which would be better for light hunting out to 50 yards. I plan on going after medium sized birds and gophers. The .20 has more drop but is it worth the extra power?
Also I was suprised by the difference in price between .20 pellets and .177. They both cost the same but with the .20 you only get half as much. Any suggestions on which caliber would be helpful.

The RX-1 is BASICALLY nothing more than the current RX-2 with a stock change. The RX-1 has a beech stock where the RX-2 is a laminate stock.

Since you HAVE a .177 R-9, it makes sense to go with the .20. The RX-1 will handle the heavier .20 caliber pellets quite well. I have several .20 airguns including R-9s, R-1s, R-7s, and several Sheridans. The .20 is a good step up in on target energy delivery. I use a R-1 Carbine .20 more than any arigun I have.

For pellets..you'll one need a few .20 pellets to try. The Beeman FTS and Crosman Premier boxed are generally THE .20 pellets for the RX-1/RX-2.

I'm planing to trade the r9 in when I buy the rx-1 so I won't have a .177 gun anymore. Is there a signifigant difference in killing power between .177 and .20? Thanks

'big6x6' has hit the nail on the head. I have a Beeman Crow Magnum IV, gas spring model, in .20 and it is a hard hitting, very accurate caliber for target/hunting use. The RX is very capable of taking larger game(jack rabbits size and larger) beyond the 50 yard mark. Get a pellet sampler to try many different pellet types to see which one(s) your rifle will like best. I have found the .20 to be very un-finicky about which pellets you feed them. In our .20's we use Crow Magnum pellets for hunting and most any of the wad cutter type pellets for target work. I like your choice in the RX model and a .20 would be perfect. Lawdog

It sounds like getting the .20 is the way to go. Its good to know what people with expierence think because I'm new at this. Thanks for the help. Wise Master

Trade in your .177 R-9? Mistake. The R-9 .177 is WAY more user friendly than the RX-1/RX-1. The R-9 is a classic in every way. Easy to cock, accurate, light, user friendly, .177 pellets available ANYWHERE.

I'd save up for the RX-1 and NOT get rid of the R-9.

I sold the r9 to my friend on tuesday. The r9 was a good gun but I needed the money. I wish I had heard what you had to say but I was away and I last checked the computer last weekend.

I might order a Swift Premier 4-12x40 scope for it in a couple days, do you have any opinions on these?

Got 2 gophers, one with the r9 before I sold it, and one with my pump pistol.

Yes. For the money, it's the best air rifle scope out there. I've had six or eight. Good customer service also
