loading 32 WCF
« on: February 22, 2011, 03:52:54 PM »
I am not a novice handloader but I would appreciate some help. I am having difficulty getting the runout to acceptable figures with my 32/20 handloads.Using lee dies I can't seem to get the cast bullet started straight. Using all the little tricks I know I am getting .03 and more runout.
Should I invest in a wilson chamber seater or what do you guys or gals suggest?
Thanks,G66

You dont mention what type of press , On a single stage what I find helps greatly is to just get the bullet started in the case and back off and turn the cartridge 180 degrees run it back into the die and push the bullet in a little and then back off and turn it 90 degrees and the push the bullet  in a little more and back off again and turn the cartridge 180 degrees and finish seating the bullit . I have seen this cut down on runout greatly but a good set of dies may solve the problem .I have never been had much luck with lee dies with the exception of the collet neck die and loading the hornet.

Hello, gunther66.  A little more information would be helpful..Are you loading cast or jacket?  I shoot only cast & use a Lyman M die to expand case mouth about .001-.002" under bullet dia. I can finger seat bullet about .06" into case mouth..No run-out that I can tell.  Best of luck!

a good flare and going slow with the press stroke are the tricks. I load mine on a 550 and have to really slow down to get them right. The brass is so thin on the 3220 case that if i rush bullets tend to seat crocked or cases crush. another problem may be the shape of your seating plug. You may need to make one for the specific bullet your using.

Thanks for the info. Loading 115 gr cast. I have tried varying the amount of case mouth belling to no avail.Have used a universal case expander die as well as the expander that came with the die set.
New starline brass helps but does not eliminate the runout.
It seems the bullet is tilting once I must release it when it is going up into the die.
Any one using any special seater?  I use a Wilson Arbor seater on the 22-250 with great success,But this is a whole 'nuther ball game.  G66
