Looking for an AR scope. This one is a flat top varmint style rig without a front sight. Looking for mainly coyote and groundhog in a walkabout light weight package. Budget is 300 or so, less is always better. I would like 95% light transmission, good clarity and light weight. 10.5 max on power. Am open to lower magnification as well. Needs to be variable. Range will be 400 yards max most likely. More often 2-300 yards. Coyote is daylight only here so it has to stretch into dusk, but not nighttime.

Just put a Leupi VX-IIc 4x12x40 on my Bushy Nat'l match target. I think it's perfect!

Consider the Bushnell 3200 Elite 3-9X40s that are going for about $139.00 right now.

I bought one from Natchez.

Mine wears a 3 x 9 Leupold and I wouldn`t change it. The 3 1/2 x 10 Leupold VX111 would be alittle better, but not worth the extra money to me. The way I hunt I only get shots at running coyotes and after 4 or 5 years of carring this rifle I have never taken a shot at a coyote with the sope set on anything but 3X, and I have taken them out to near 300 yrds. with the scope set on 3X. If I ever catch one that is not running I`ll try it on 9X.

On a gun with recoil above something like a .270 I'd go with the Prostaff. On a gun with low recoil the eye relief on the 3200/4200 is adequate. A $200.00 scope for $139.00 is a good deal.

I do not have this rifle in possession yet. It is supposed to be 5 lbs with an empty 10 rnd mag. It has a 16" heavy profile carbon fiber barrel. Loaded I would like it to be at or under 6 lbs. Guessing that puts a scope at about 13 oz. Also wanting brightness. A 3200 is 90% transmission. A vx-2 85-87%. Sticking to the 95% because I may end up having to go with a smaller diameter objective for weight.

Right now thinking of a vortex viper 2-7x32
A nikon monarch 2-8x32
A burris fullfield II 2-7x35
A nikon buckmark 3-9x40
A sightron sII 3-9x42

Cabela's has the Bushnell 4200 3-9X40s for $199.00. That is one heck of a deal.

Was looking at that very scope you mentioned swampy, can't find any info on light trans. They used to be like a 3200 with the only difference being a fog lens coating. Heck for all I know the trans is just a bunch of hogwash. Heard some of them measure at wavelengths we can't even see so they can get higher numbers. I'm going to Chattanooga this weekend so I'll stop by Natchez and take a look through the popular brands for a comparo.
I thank all of you so far. Keep the ideas coming because Natchez wont ship to my area so I wont give them any business. But no harm in window shopping.

The 3200s are in the lower 90% and the 4200s are 95% I believe. I can't see any difference when I look through them.

I have a weaver V9 on my CZ 527 in 223 for exactly the same type of hunting you are looking for.
I like the Weaver scopes. I think they are every bit the equal to the Leupold Var X II series but 75 to 80% the price.
Although the Leupold Var X II 3-9X40 LRD (long Range Deuplex) has me thinking about a new rifle. I think Weaver is making something similar.
Last time I looked the Leupold was under $300, but checking now they are 329 at Cabela's.

ive been trying to slowly replace all my varix IIs with vx2s. Ive just come to detest the friction ajustments on the vari x scopes and the newer ones have better optics to boot. Bringing two of them to a new home at my buddys house today. Still got one more 3x9 and two more 2x7s that need to be replace eventually. There not a bad scope for someone who sticks with one load in his gun but there a pain for someone like me thats allways experimenting.
