I,ve got a 24"factory SS Encore in 270 win. I,m looking for a good load for Moose. Has anyone used the 270 for Moose / Elk ? Were you ssatisfied with the results ?

Soup: I know that a 270 can be used as my daughter - in - law's mother took a moose - mountain sheep and a caribou in Alaska this year with a Win. 270. But she is a hell of a shot. Placement of bullet !! I know they load so I will try and find out what they are using for ammo.

The 270 will certainly do the job. Coyote2 is right though... SHOT PLACEMENT.

I'd be looking into Fail Safe, Swift-A-Frame, or Trophy Bonded Bear Claw bullets. Don't go cheap on the one item that will get the job done! 150gr bullets are the start point. For handloaders, look at Hawk bullets, they're available in heavier weights. 160gr will give better sectional densities when you can find the heavy weights.

Lots of moose get knocked down every year by the 270 and even smaller cartridges. Stick with the better premium bullets and use common sense as to shot selection and you'll be just fine. Moose aren't very tough and have a HUGE vital zone, just be sure you have a good enough bullet to get to the vitals.
