self ejector in 223
« on: February 22, 2011, 04:15:18 AM »
I acquired a Handi in 223 and it does not have self ejector.
Is there a way I can make it into a self ejector?

Thanks

See the FAQs, it requires machine work, but can be done at home if you have a drill press.

I'm probably coming off as rude,  In my  neck of the woods, anyoune wanting an ejector must be nuts.  Sure, go pick your spent brass out of snow, ice, grass, dirt, ancient cow poop, whatever.  When I shoot, mine's in my hand and in my pocket.  I would never own another ejector barrel.

I'm just the opposite.  When I open that action I want the shell gone.  When at the range I simply place my left hand behind the barrel opening and catch the empty when it pops out.  Drop in a fresh shell and slip the empty into my pocket.  Digging a spent shell out from the little space given with an extractor is not the thing I want to be doing.  I will not own a Handi that does not have EJECTORS.

I live in a cold climate, and getting shells out from an extractor, when your fingers are cold is sometimes next to impossiable.  I also hunt in areas where there is dangerous game, wheather I am hunting them or not, I sometimes run into them and have close encounters.  If I have to shoot a Bear, or anything else (Territorial Moose, or Wolverine) in a hurry, I want that empty to be gone when I open the action.  I want to only be involved with dropping in a fresh round to make a second shot if neccessary.

That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I like the extractors better. No worries about a stuck case. My 22 Hornet ejector will stick a case from time to time if the chamber gets a little dirty.
