95 ford F-150

The other day the speedometer quit working, and the truck acted like the automatic - transmission was going out, it would jerk when shifting up at 45 MPH. I took it into Amco, they called me today and said they could find nothing wrong, speedometer is working and truck is shifting properly. The only thing I know is we had a real cold snap. This same thing happened last year, different shop said they re-built the transmission, but a year later same thing. Anyone run into anything like this. Little late but I think the first guy ripped me off.

boy intermittent problems like that are a pain and very difficult to find.the first guy may of rebuilt the trans and wiggled the right wire or whatever when reinstalling and then it worked.you need to find out what sends signal to the tranny to shift,is it a throttle position type sensor or a speed sensor that works in tandem with the speedometer?find a small local parts place and go down and talk to the guys that work there.they might very well tell yu "oh thats the whatchamahicky sensor sell um all the time for that model" good luck and keep us posted so we can learn what happened.

I am going in to pick the truck up today, the guy at Amco said no charge they did not find anything, but said if it happens again to bring it back, from what they told me on this model /year the speed sensor is mounted on the rear end, I may take it into a local guy that dose pretty good work, I talked to him, he said if it acts up again, bring it in and he would pull the plate on the rear end and see if he could find the gremlin. Just glad it may not be the Tranny, that gets expensive fast. If I ever find the problem, I well post the problem.

You don't have to pull the rear cover. 1 bolt holds the sensor in the top front of rear. Check the connections on the sensor and or pull it and check the face of it and visually check the reluctor thru the hole. see if its tight on the ring gear plate with a screwdriver and make sure there is no excessive play on the ring bearings.

Yes, there's always someone that will bash an F-150 even though it's the best selling truck in the country and has been for over 30 years and according to business news was the best selling vehicle in the USA last year. You can't really have a sensible argument with that. Hunman55

not sure about the f-150, nor did you mention what trans you had,  but the f-250 we just picked up has I believe c6 in it, that is electronic shift and that truck has always had a shifting problem even when my dad ran it on the farm we bought the truck off of.

If I wasto hazard a guess I'd say your expiriencing a sensor problem , check

 - Programmable Speedometer/Odometer Module (PSOM)
- Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)
- Speed sensor

After a trip to a local Transmission shop, then Aamco, and a local repair shop the contention was that it was not the Vehicle speed sensor. The truck is out to an auto electrical shop, the guy out there called to say the problem is in the dash, and that there is a sensor on the speed odometer that also sends a signal to the engine brain, and this would cause the shifting problem.
Only problem ford no longer makes this part, he checked with his after market distributor who also can not get the part, he did find one at a junk yard with a 90 day warranty.
Total price parts and labor just over $400.00. Normally I would not put this much into a 95 truck. But I bought the truck new and it has less than 100 thousand miles on it with a good body. Hopefully this will take care of the problem.

I picked the truck up today and the problem is fixed. They changed out the Speedometer in the dash, I drove the truck around for a couple hours, the flopping in the speedometer, and just not working at all, is gone and its shifting great. I t was just a pain tracking down the problem. One thing I did notice, my truck had over 98K miles on it, and the replacement one is showing 80K. Pa has an annual inspection, and the miles are recorded. Will this be a problem? I drive less than 5 K miles a year. Just wondering if this would be a problem. Say I show up in July for inspection, and have fewer miles than last year.

Hey hornady, I've got the same truck. And it is all truck! Don't have the auto trans mine is a 5spd. I gotta say, I do appreciate how well the old rig runs for me! It has a 300 inline six. It is nothin fancy, but sure does get the job done. I hope you get that tranny fixed up just fine without to much of a problem, but the old truck would probably still run along anyway. These are tough old trucks! scout4<><
