Last night I was in a class,  during a power point program there was a slide showing some weapons and booby traps found on some busts and one in-particular caught my eye.  It was and H&R or NEF shotgun and it had been modified.  The stock had been sawed off to a pistol grip,  someone had taken the time to do some pretty nice wood work on it.  The barrel appeared to be not much longer than twice the length of the chamber maybe 6" if that.  (of course this makes it illegal)  The fore arm was fashioned similar to the pistol grip,  nice wood work here to.  I guess everyone else was thinking of the types of traps and weapons criminals have,  I was wanting to shoot that thing.  It appeared to be a 12g.   I bet if you didn't hold it good it would bust your nose.

might not be so bad , consider it thakes 16-18 inches to get a good complete burn of the powder . A 6 inch bbl is just getting started . 3-4 inch of chamber 3/4 to inch of forcing cone ...
If ya can see it ya can hit it !
